Model Enterprise Clinic

Piloting ‘Model Enterprise Clinics’ in RMG Factories and workplace accident

Title:

Partnership between BKMEA and Better Work Bangladesh for Enterprise level Engagement for Learning and Capacity Development Activities

Development Partner:

International Labour Organization (ILO)

Duration:

01/04/2023 to 20/06/2023

Objectives:

  • Pilot implementation of two handbooks (Model Enterprise Clinic and sustainability Guide for Model Enterprise Clinics).
  • To organize the data collection relevant to employment injury scheme (age, wage, summary description of injury, time of absence, medical cost).

Description:

The program has been implemented in two segments, i.e: establishing ‘Model Enterprise Clinics’ and orientation of a sustainability guide for model enterprise clinics.  Enterprise Clinics are considered one of the most important elements of ‘Employment Injury Schemes’ as they are the first responders in case of any workplace accident or occupational diseases.  Presence of an active Enterprise Clinic can reduce the risk of disability or death of workers in case of workplace accident or disease – thus reducing cost of compensation and lesser burden on the social security.

ILO has developed two handbooks (Handbook and checklists for ‘Model Enterprise Clinics’ & Handbook for ‘Sustainability of Model Enterprise Clinics’) with the engagement of a national knowledge partner (CMED Health Ltd). These handbooks has been reviewed technically by BKMEA and provided training on implementation guidance in 30 Factories as a pilot – to assess its effectiveness.

Achievements:

BKMEA has successfully established “Model Enterprise Clinic” in 15 factories. Those 15 factories are certified as “Model Enterprise Clinic” who have complied with the approved checklist, formed “Healthcare Committee”, Oriented with the “Handbook” developed by ILO.
