BKMEA-SEIP Overview and Objectives:
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) has been implementing Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) in collaboration with Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh and Asian Development (ADB) since May 05, 2015. The objective of this project is to develop skilled workforce through extensive training initiatives. These programs are designed to enhance worker’s skill and to increase productivity and competitiveness in the global market.
BKMEA has successfully completed Tranche 1 (April 05, 2015 to December 31, 2018), Tranche 2 (January 01, 2019 to December 31, 2021) and Tranche 3 (October 01, 2021 to December 31, 2024) under SEIP project. The total duration of SEIP project is From May 5, 2015, to December 31, 2023.
Training Institute and Course name:
BKMEA has total five training institutes. Training institutes are iART-Dhaka, iART-Narayanganj, iART-Chottogram for new entrant’s management training program and Worker’s Training Institute (WTI)-Narayanganj and Worker’s Training Institute (WTI)-Comilla are for new entrant’s operator training program. BKMEA has successfully conducted management training courses (New Entrants) at iART-Dhaka, iART-Narayanganj, iART-Chittagong, Operator Training Program (New Entrants) at WTI-Comilla, WTI-Narayanganj & Outsourced Training Institute and factory based Up-Skilling Training Program at different factories under SEIP.

Achievements:
BKMEA has completed training of 56,721 trainees during the period from 05 May 2015 to 31 December 2023. BKMEA has implement four types of training programs which included i) Graduate Training Program (new entrants) ii) Operator Training Program (new entrants) iii) Upskilling Training Program (For workers) iv) Upskilling Training Program (for management staff).
By implementing SEIP training, BKMEA has gained a vast experience in working with government project and it has completed a successful training program through PPP model. The industry owners are recruiting skilled workforce in order to improve the productivity. The key achievements also include the following i) acquisition of knowledge, experience and abilities to develop skilled workforce ii) quality training and financial management system with strong monitoring system established; iii) well-designed and integrated implementation model with a target of job placement improving the effectiveness of the training; iv) industry owners getting the benefit of employing trained workers created (since, it ensures reducing production cost, minimizing wastage and improving the labor productivity)
BKMEA-SEIP Training Summary:
From May 02, 2015 to December 31, 2023, the total target was 56,131 individuals, of whom 56,721 were enrolled in the training Program, and certifications were 54,580. Additionally, at the end of the project period, BKMEA successfully placed a job for 47,611, of which 27,679 (or 58.14%) were female participants.
